En-Mercs comic

I’m very proud to annouce that the first issue of En-Mercs is now live and online for all to read. Head over to the Graphic.ly website, install their software and search for “En-Mercs” (under the publisher Omni Consumer Comics*). More issues will be uploaded soon.

This is where the story all begins, when three of the main protagonists meet for the first time and unknowingly set off on a journey that will put the fate of humanity in their hands whether they want it or not. You can get a sneak preview of this in the comics section of the site, but it won’t have any words. You’ll have to fork out a whopping $0.99 for that on Graphic.ly.

On a personal note, this is all very exciting. To see my story transform over the years into something tangible, and now be open to the public is pretty thrilling. I’d really appreciate it if you can let everyone know about the release – the more people who know and buy the comic means I can keep making the series in my spare time. Many thanks in advance!

To coincide with the re-launch of the site, I had new business cards printed up by the lovely people over at Moo. Not only this is a great way to show off the range and quality of the work surrounding the project, it will also be very handy when I hit the New York Comic Con in October and promote the graphic novel.

The lead leaches out into what ever is in the piece but also can leach through the clay. Clay is porous, even when fired. Depending on the clay, some is more porous than others. Invisible wires, cooking range placed in Vaastu perfect (!) angles, waste bin area lined with waterproof surfaces, heights of shelves customised to suit individual users, and sinks generally scratchproof: which means you can scrub away your baandli and your dekchi without worrying. Drawers slide in and out at the merest flick of your little finger. And even if you kick the drawers on temperamental days, the oil jars don’t spill over, thanks to the adjustable storage units that keep oilcans upright and your fragile glassware from getting fatally close to each other..

This piece just came in from the ever talented SaejinOh today. I’ve run out of superlatives to describe his amazing work ethic with how he keeps coming back to characters he’s already done, and somehow making them even more amazing than before!

The new approach to this character is brilliant. The inverted feet/leg thing he has implemented is always how I envisaged this characters part of the suit to look but could never quite convey properly. It’s as if he’s read my mind on that part and I’m thrilled to see it turn out so well.

Her gauntlet too; it’s over-sized for her frame, but still realistic , believable and very intimidating – exactly what I wanted it for her, avoiding something tiny that could magically house all the weaponry it has, like you see in other sci-fi ideas out there. It fits perfectly with the En-Mercs world by making it futuristic but grounded in reality and believability.

To give the characters a little depth I have now begun to add descriptions to the primary characters pages, starting with Misato Tachikawa. I was careful not to give any surprises away to the overall plot, so read away!

As an added bonus I have taken a little snippet from the pages of the graphic novel, where you see Lance Boriken and Cassandra Isaacs being briefed on this character. Even though more information on her background is available, you are only seeing a rather objective view of it. With the way the comic is set up, later on you will be able to see Tachikawa’s own interrpretation on how she came to be.
